Twitter

I set-up a twitter account and followed a friends tweets and tweets from the Mens Health magazine topics and found them to be interesting. I did net tweet myself but instead read what was being tweeted about. I probably will follow other health and exercise topics at home. I would not use this at work because I am a shelver. I was already somewhat familiar with Twitter previously from a workshop that I attended on Facebook and Twitter but I never did set-up a Twitter account until now.

Virtual Library

I was surprised by the amount of information available in the virtual library and probably will use it at home. I tried to find relatives on the Heritage site but was unsucessful and I am not sure why. Maybe they did not participate in the census I am not sure. I know the spelling of the names were correct. If I could use it at home I would. I know the New Lenox library (my home town) has Ancestry.com available for free on their computers.

Flickr

This post is a little out of order, but my original blog entry got lost. I found Flickr to be the hardest lesson, and the hour allowed for finishing the lesson was not enough to learn anything.

Podcasting, IM, Downloadable Audiobooks

I created a new contact to IM and I IM'ed with glen but it took a little time to figure out how. With the audiobooks I did locate the title that I wanted to listen to and I will listen to other audiobooks at home probably. I am not sure how the library could utilize downloadable audiobooks. I only listened to one podcast.

Wikis and Google Documents

For Wiki documents I looked at a health and fitness document and that is the one I would most like to contribute to. I can see how for example if one is setting up a camping trip a wiki document can help everyone involved add to or modify the plans and what to bring. I would not use this for my library job because I am a shelver. For a google document I created one entitled "Fitness and Exercising" and looked at other google documents to get an idea how to create one. I don't think that I would actually use this at home. Also, I would not use this at the library since I am a shelver.

Social Networking

I already had my own Facebook account so I was familiar with that. I now know about Myspace and Linkdin as well but I will stick with Facebook. I may use Linkdin sometime in the future if I work somewhere else but not at the library.

pandora and you tube

You tube I was already familiar with because I have used it at home many times before this but Pandora was new to me. I already signed up for a Pandora account at home and have been listening to my own created radio stations. I would not use this at work here at the library since I am a shelver.

RSS feeds and Feed Readers

This is really a cool thing to learn in that you don't have to visit all the different sites separately which takes more time. I don't think I would use it at work because I am a shelver, maybe during one of my breaks in the break room it would save me time. This one took longer to do then the blogging but it was worth it. I will use it at home though for sure.

Creating a Blog account

Creating my blog account was to easy unless I missed something.
